  • I love it... There are 64 gardens in this city which you can visit them in all seasons (we visited shiraz on December and the gardens were green)... if you don't have enough time choose "bagh-e-Eram" & "Narenjestan-e-Qavam" Don't forget to visit the tombs of Saadi & Hafiz... they are open even at night and are so nice in day or night... walk lonely in there for a while and receive positive energy of environment. Visited December 2016.

General Information About Yazd

It was formerly also known as Yezd, is the capital of Yazd Province, Iran. The city is located 270 km southeast of Esfahan. At the 2011 census, the population was 529,673, and it is currently the 15th largest city in Iran. Since 2017, the historical city of Yazd is recognized as a World Heritage site by UNESCO Nickname of Yazd is the "City of Windcatchers” (شهر بادگیرهاShahre Badgirha) from its many architecture examples. This is because of generations of adaptations to its desert surroundings, Yazd has the unique historical buildings. It is also very well known for its Zoroastrian fire temples, yakhchals(coolers), Ganat (underground channels), Abanbars (cisterns), Persian handicrafts handwoven clothes (Persian Termeh), silk weaving, Persian cotton Candy, and its time-honored confectioneries.

Public Transportation in Yazd

Taxi

Taxis are available into town from the bus terminal or train station at a reasonable price. They can also be rented on an hourly basis. Silence Towers, Atashkadah, and Amir Chachmack Square are out of town but easily reached by cab.

  • Water Museum

    The best museum of water in country. This museum show cases how water has been supplied using various tools, methods and traditions. It is affiliated to the water organization which is based on the dry lands conditions.
  • Boqeh Davazdeh Imam (12 Shia Imams Garden)

    In 900 years ago in honor of 12 Shia Imams. This memorial building was constructed.
  • Varahram Fire Temple

    It is widely known for the age of its fire, the most famous fire temple of Zoroastrians, which is nearly 1,500 years old and never extinguished.
  • Dolatabad Garden

    The Yazd governor’s house in 18th century with the tallest wind-tower of Yazd, measuring 22 meters.
  • Fahadan Residential Quarter

    The oldest part of the city where houses are made of sun-dried bricks and walls are made of mud and straw. Some of the oldest monuments of the city are found here.
